**For COVID 19 affected borrowers who reach a loan relief agreement with us during accommodation period.  In some cases, if a member has gap insurance, and they execute more than two skip payments during the length of the loan, their potential gap benefit could be reduced.

Government economic impact payments

Important changes to the child tax credit are helping many families get advance payments of the credit  The IRS began paying half the total credit amount in advance monthly payments starting on July 15.  You will claim the other half when you file your 2021 income tax return.  These changes apply to the 2021 tax year only.  These payments will be posted monthly, unless you opt out, then you will get the tax credit when you file your taxes as normal.  More information.

Third round stimulus payments came in waves over a few weeks, with the first ones posted on 3/17/21.  As with the first two rounds of payments, most eligible individuals received their payment via direct deposit into the same account reflected on their tax return.  When it actually comes in, you can see the payment in Online Banking (so you can avoid the busy phone lines) and you can easily access those funds using your Bloom Credit Union Debit Card.  To stay on top of your finances, download our Bloom App, and/or set up appropriate automatic alerts in it or in Online Banking.

The vast majority of people did not need to take any action to receive their payment, it was automatic, so there was no need to reach out to the IRS or your financial institution. For information about the stimulus checks, including eligibility, and how payments are made, the federal government has developed a website here.

If you didn’t get any payments or got less than the full amount, you may qualify for the credit, even if you don’t normally file taxes.  More information is available here.  You may need to fill out a form, including Bloom Credit Union's Routing and Transit number: 272-486-193.  When entering your personal account information, add two zeroes (00) to the end of your account number (signifying savings account), and since it's a 12 digit account number format, add enough zeroes to the beginning to make it 12 digits.  For example, an account number of 12345 would be formatted as 000001234500.

Eligible individuals who did not use direct deposit when filing their taxes and didn't use the above method to give them their direct deposit information may be mailed the payment (a check or debit card).  For those people who do receive their Economic Impact Payment as a check in the mail, please know that all names listed on the check must also be listed on your Bloom account.  Also, all persons named on the check must endorse the back of the check.  If these two requirements are not met, we cannot cash or deposit your check.  If you receive your payment by check, to save time you can deposit it using our Bloom App, or at a nearby Co-op Network ATM that accepts deposits.

Keeping us all safe.

We hope you and your family are doing well and we appreciate your cooperation with safety measures during this historic and ever-changing pandemic.  In accordance with the new CDC and State of Michigan guidelines, you do not need to wear a mask when you come into a Bloom CU branch.

Avoid scams

Scammers take advantage of the virus fears and widespread interest in the stimulus checks to try to steal personal information and money. Remember, that the Credit Union and the IRS will not call, text you, email you or contact you on social media asking for personal or bank account information.  Here's a helpful link from the Better Business Bureau about avoiding stimulus check scams.  The FTC has published the following article to protect you from scammers. Coronavirus Scammers
